When you see a 2014 calendar, it is numerically and psychologically a fresh start. A new year brings an opportunity to create a new you and since we spend the majority of our waking hours at work, why not try to breathe new life into your career? Forbes Women, along with workplace expert Lynn Taylor, recently compiled a list of 14 things that you can do to be better at your job in 2014.

Among the list includes anticipating your department’s needs by proactively taking on tasks that your department leader may oversee and present them with a finished project. Also, volunteering to get involved with special projects across all business units can help you better understand the business and form connections across the company.

The more you show your employer that you are a dedicated employee with abilities and potential, the more it will benefit you when it is time for your next annual review. Doing better at your job can also lead to more monetary incentives as well as more high profile assignments and opportunities for promotion.

    Great suggestions! We are often not recognized or taken for granted in our own department. Taking opportunities to work with other departments and teams is a more viable path to upward mobility. Crosspollination is an added benefit to Jabil.
