Gabriela Martinez: Leaving Jabil’s Footprint in Chihuahua

Gabriela Martinez 2 - 480x260Gabriela Martinez’s passion for improving the local community was evident as she presented her team’s project, “Developing the Next Generation of Talent,” during this year’s Deliver Best Practices Competition. Martinez, who started at Jabil in 2010 as a Hiring Coordinator, is now the Talent Acquisition Manager at Jabil Chihuahua. She says her proudest moment at work thus far has been the opportunity to represent her team to Jabil’s executives at this year’s competition.

Earning a top three position in the Human Development category, Martinez and team identified the need to increase the indirect labor force in Chihuahua with specific technical skills. They discovered that out of all of the people who were accessing Jabil’s job portal, only 3 percent were applying because of the very specific technical skills and requirements for the positions. In order to address this issue, the team worked with local educational institutes to create a three-phase training program.

Impacting both Jabil and the Chihuahua community, the project provided solutions for personnel to develop their skills set to support the site and further internal growth opportunities.

At the end of their project, the cycle time of requisitions was reduced and 100 percent of the pre-selected trainees were hired. Additionally, the Instituto Tecnologico de Chihuahua recognized this project as one of the best regarding educational relationships in the community.

Martinez says she is very proud to be part of a project that can be shared with other sites as an example of a best practice. She believes the best part of her job is when her efforts contribute to the accomplishment of company goals.

When she’s not at work, Martinez enjoys cooking with her children and would someday like to learn how to play the guitar.
